Importance of Music | #WorldMusicDay

What is World Music Day?

Today is World Music Day. If you are wondering that is this a new fad that people are following these days, then you are wrong. Celebration of World Music Day, also known as Fete de la Musique (French for Music Festival) began in 1982 in France.

This day is celebrated to bring everyone together through music. Music can connect people and inspire them. Thus, on World Music Day, musicians perform for free in public places for everyone to enjoy and share a bond. Annually, musicians of around 120 countries celebrate World Music day on 21st June.

Me and Music

Everyone likes to listen to good music and I am not an exception. We all have those teenage years when we listen to music on full blast despite the protest of all family members. That is a phase that everyone goes through when we want everyone to know our current favourites. And, then comes the phase, as a relief to everyone around us, when we switch to headphones keeping our playlist private to ourselves.

So, now I am a headphone person. I occasionally like to let everyone know what I am listening by posting Instagram stories about it. But, most of the times, my playlist is very sacred to me that gives me peace 🙂

Importance of music

According to Billy Joel,

“I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.”

Studies have shown that music improves our mental and physical health. I feel a deep connection with the lyrics of the songs. They help me process my emotion. And I am sure you must have felt the same in your life.

Some of the importance of listening to music are:

Makes you happier

When we listen to music that we like, then our brain release dopamine, the feel-good hormone in our body. This automatically affects our mood, sleep, memory, learning and concentration.

Better exercise with right kind of music

I always feel that if I put fast-paced music, then I exercise with better motivation. Listening to music while exercising helps us in improving the quality of the workout with better stamina and good mood.

Reduces stress

Music can be an effective stress management tool. If you are commuting and you are listening to music, then you are less likely to feel stressed about the traffic and noise around you. It is advised to listen to music while doing things that can otherwise cause stress to you, like cleaning.

Better sleep

Music helps us relax our body. Listening to music that has a slow beat helps us calm our mind. It makes us sleep better. There are many mobile apps available on the app store that plays calm music to help you sleep faster and better.

Better creativity

If you learn music in any form, then it boosts your creativity. Learning music helps us in divergent thinking. It helps us explore more than one possible solutions.

So, what are you waiting for? Go out and enjoy world music day. The local bands in Patna are performing at various places today. Support them and have fun.

Happy listening 🙂
